Head Coach Kyle Martin
Kyle Martin’s hockey journey began with the Erie Lions Travel Hockey Organization, 2000 birth year AA where he developed his love for the game and built the foundation for his competitive career. He went on to play for Cathedral Prep from 2014–2018, becoming part of one of the most successful high school programs in the state. During his time at Prep, the team captured multiple championships, and Kyle credits that environment for shaping his work ethic, leadership, and passion for team culture. Kyle continued his career at Gannon University Club Hockey (Division II), where he played a key role in rebuilding the program and helping establish a winning culture. Known for his leadership and commitment, he served as Assistant Captain in his junior season and was named Captain his senior year, leading by example both on and off the ice. Martin joins Montour after impactful coaching roles with South Pittsburgh Rebellion Hockey (14U/15U/16U AA) and West Allegheny Varsity Hockey (PIHL). His ability to connect with players, teach the game with clarity, and elevate team culture has earned him a strong reputation across the region.
Assistant Coaches:
Nick Sauer
Nick Sauer, varsity coach, has spent the majority of his life involved with Montour Hockey. He played under Dustin Kerr and Clayton Shell, and captained the program as a player at both the middle school and varsity levels. Nick also served as captain of his AAA team, the Pittsburgh Selects, where he played under Alain Lemieux. The quick jump to varsity required Nick to adapt to competing alongside older and more experienced players. This experience carried into college, where he played ACHA Division I hockey as a true freshman for Robert Morris University. During his time at Robert Morris, Nick studied cyber investigations and intelligence with a major focus on computer forensics. Nick’s transition to coaching began in the 2025 season when he returned to Montour Hockey to give back to the program that helped shape him. As a coach, he places strong emphasis on discipline and the development of young adults. Nick learns as much from the players as they learn from him, and he strives to give them his best effort while reinforcing the importance of taking pride in everything they do.
